That painting was directly inspired by French painter Yves Klein and his famous International Klein Blue (IKB). The design of that painting is based on the 12th/13th century mathematician Leonardo Fibonacci who invented the Fibonacci sequence which closely related to the golden ratio of 1.618.
In the Fibonacci sequence of numbers, each number is the sum of the previous two numbers, starting with 0 and 1. Thus the sequence begins 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, 233, 377, 610, 987, etc.
That sequence is now widely used in Modern Technical Analysis of markets and gave name to the Fibonacci ratios of 61.8%, 50% and 38.2%.
The painting was designed according to Fibonacci suite of numbers, each blue band having a width respecting the sequence 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55.
